Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal is made from a variety of natural substances, such as coconut shells, wood, and peat. It is very porous and highly absorbent and it has the ability to bind itself to toxins and odours. Activated charcoal is often incorporated into beauty products such as body washes, facial masks and shampoos. This ability to bind to toxins is why we use activated charcoal in many of our teeth whitening products including toothpastes and mouthwashes.
It helps remove tannins, those compounds in food and spices (including red wine and coffee) that can stain teeth, and as an added bonus, activated charcoal helps to eliminate the bacteria that cause bad breath and can attack teeth in the form of plaque.
