What makes a healthy smile? Is it just strong teeth and healthy gums, or is it much more than that?
The oral care industry, like the beauty industry, has boomed over the last decade. With a constant stream of new, must-have products hitting the shelves, or clogging-up our instagram feed, it’s hard to know what's right for you.
It's long been a passion of mine to seek out what makes the perfect smile, and how it has an impact on physical and mental health. Most of us brush twice a day as directed by dental professionals, some even floss daily too! But is it enough?
As a society, we are living longer, and our aesthetic demands are higher when it comes to our smiles. We need our oral care products, and the science behind them, to keep up with these needs. Truth is, there is no one magic product or routine to achieve everything we desire. It requires daily, weekly, monthly, and even annual maintenance to keep on top of your oral health.
On the daily: Find a gentle daily toothpaste to improve the overall health of the mouth, which addresses your primary concerns. Whether that be gum health, sensitivity or even enamel erosion. Spit don't rinse. You need to leave it in your body for it to work. It’s tempting to rinse the toothpaste away after brushing with mouthwash or water, as the adverts would have us believe that this is the right thing to do. However, to be effective, the toothpaste needs to sit topically in the area be properly absorbed.
Weekly or biweekly: This is where you might like to introduce another product into your oral care regime to address secondary concerns, such as bad breath or a buildup of staining. The Beverly Hills Formula Advanced Black Pearl Whitening Toothpaste contains activated charcoal to help buffer away any superficial staining and eliminate bad breath causing bacteria and neutralise remaining odours using strong antibacterial action.
Monthly: I'm sure all of us admit to wanting a brighter smile. Whether it be for a special occasion, or event, or just to give your smile some TLC at home, whitening products are a great way to give your smile a boost! Beverly Hills Formula Professional 2 in 1 Whitening Kit contains whitening strips and a pen, formulated with hydrogen peroxide, and the popular whitening ingredient PAP, for extra whitening power. Colour care requires maintenance, so having an easy-to-use product at hand is key.
Yearly: Visit your dentist and hygienist every 6 to 12 months, or as advised. They are experts in detecting dental disease and other oral conditions. Early detection and prevention are essential to obtaining optimal oral health.
